7. Keyboard shortcuts
Nebula is being built keyboard-first (every action will eventually be listed in a rebindable shortcut registry, with a searchable command palette); that is still being built out. What is implemented and working today:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Space |
Play / stop |
Ctrl+N |
New project |
Ctrl+S |
Save |
Ctrl+Z |
Undo |
Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z |
Redo |
Ctrl+T |
Add track |
Ctrl+Shift+T |
Add audio track |
Ctrl+E |
Split the selected clip at the playhead |
Ctrl+D |
Duplicate the selected clip |
Delete |
Delete the selected clip |
Ctrl+L |
Toggle loop |
Ctrl+= / Ctrl+- |
Zoom the timeline in / out |
Ctrl+, |
Open Settings |
Ctrl+Alt+B |
Toggle the browser panel |
Ctrl+Alt+D |
Toggle the bottom (instrument/log/piano) panel |
Ctrl+Q |
Quit |
Every menu item shows its shortcut next to it, and the help strip at the bottom of the window names the shortcut (where one exists) for whatever you are pointing at.
The computer keyboard as a piano
While the instrument screen's Keys view has focus, the letter row plays notes:
A W S E D F T G Y H U J K
Z and X move the octave down and up. These letter keys are only active while the instrument
screen (or a similar note-entry view) has keyboard focus, so they never collide with the
shortcuts above, which mostly use Ctrl.
On the Pads view (a drum-style instrument), the same physical keys trigger the pads in order instead of piano notes.
What is still to come
A full, rebindable keymap (Settings > Keys & Shortcuts), a searchable command palette, and context-aware shortcuts for views that do not have one yet (the step grid, the piano roll) are planned but not built yet.
